Spice Kitten

Well I completely fell off the wagon. I made it half way through Knit And Crochet Blog Week and Fell off on Day 5. I didn't realize how long I would be working on each post! Friday night after a long day of work, grocery shopping and getting ready for a weekend of planting trees at my brothers house, I decided enough was enough. I looked at my hubby and said "Well, I can either blog about life or I can live life - but I can't do both!"

Here is a picture of my cat Izzi. I brought home this awesome spice organizer and set the box on my floor so my cat could have it. She LOVED jumping in to a box. As you can see - she is using her laser beam setting to locate any stray spices and DESTROY them as she hates a disorganized house as well. I am still plugging away at my house - bit by bit. Little improvements here and there.

Well - today is the last day of April and I am going to celebrate by cranking up my grill with some veggie kabobs I have marinading in the fridge. Seems like a nice way to say farewell to April.

 

My Kingdom for a patch of Sunlight

Izzi is a cat and therefore loves laying in a patch of sun. Sadly - our house has almost none. We have long overhangs on our house and that shades the sun from coming in rather well. One spot that gets a bit of light coming in for her to lay in is the backdoor we added a couple years ago. This leads onto our deck and we actually get enough light coming in here that she will roll around and sleep in with a big old smile on her face. (Izzi is not much for smiling - so this is always impressive.) I snapped this shot one day after work when I came home and found her just like this. On her back and just soaking up the warmth. Made me smile. :)

The Trials of Loving Critters

The critters (Emma in particular) have had a rough couple of weeks. About 1 month ago I slowly transitioned both Emma & Izzi from there normal food to a high end dog food. Clogged them both up badly. Emma was so corked that she was lethargic and having trouble jumping up on the couch. Izzi (the cat monster) was crying and frantic. I was all set to take Izzi to the vet (car in the drive way with door open, kennel out....) when miss Izzi unleashed her butt fury on the cat box. Per the vet's instructions I started pumping both Emma and Izzi with 100% pumpkin and I mixed it with wet food, slowly working them back onto their dry food that didn't cause constipation. All is now running like clock work.

The Next week Emma pulled a muscle in her leg and was limping a little for a few days.

And then last week I came home from work and Emma had a gooey eye and was looking like a pirate. Tom told me it was worse that morning but seemed to be better now. Argh. Not sure what the pirate eye was about. I think both our animals have allergies - and Emma is prone toward gooey eyes.

Would love a week off from any animal mishaps. PLEASE?!?!?! 

Izzi is for the Birds

Izzi turned three this month. This summer we put up a bird feeder in our front yard - partly for me (I love watching the birds) and partly for Izzi who spends hours watching the birds out the front window. I find it curious that she doesn't like to sit on the bench seat we have pushed up against the window - instead prefering to sit on the floor and watch the flight of the birds from our front pine trees to the feeder. I guess it must be the best view for her. Occationally a bird will fly toward our window and Izzi will just go bananas jumping up to the window and leaping in the air. It's amazing to watch her.

I am amazed at how fast the birds are going through the feed in the feeders right now. They must be stock piling up for the winter ahead. I am filling our finch feeder a couple times a week and could fill it more often if it weren't kind of a pain. The big songbird feeder is going through the seed as well - but not quite as fast. I think the volume it holds is a help on that end. So NOT ready for Winter thoughts. Meh.

Izzi

Izzi has been doing pretty good. I took her in for her annual shots this spring and she has lost a little weight - which is good. She needs to be thin for her joints. Her first knee surgery a year ago was successful and she does not seem to be in pain. She runs around like a crazy girl at times - it's good to see her being a cat. :) We expect she will need the second knee surgery someday, but hopefully if she drops weight it will be further away. She is on Cosequin for joints. I actually started taking joint medicine at the same time. I figure if the vet thinks it will help the cat then I should take it too. I have had knee problems since I was a teenager. (and yes - I need to drop weight too - Am working on it!)

We found these little cat balls at Petco and the cat just LOVES them! Bonus is that Emma (our pup) will chew on them but doesn't actually destroy them. So it works out really well. We will throw the balls and the cat will run at them and try and catch them and tackle them. It's awesome and it's good exercise for her. We loved them so much we got a pack for Tom's mom's cat too.
